Intro to Rock Climbing

This clinic is for anyone who has never climbed outside before. Emphasis will be on:

Safe climbing protocols: ( Knots, communication, safety checks, proper belaying, proper use of and care of equipment, etc .) 

Basic climbing movement: Proper foot usage, introduction to various climbing techniques- crack climbing, slab, etc..

Basic Self  Rescue

A suite of self-rescue skills will be covered by local guides. We will start with a review of basic self -rescue skills ( Belay escape )and then move into more complex scenarios. Participants will need to bring their own gear for this: 8 locking carabineers, 2 cordelletes, 1 prusick, Guide ATC or Reverso. If you don;'t have this, we would be happy to help you obtain on at our gear store High Peaks Cyclery

Intermediate/Advanced Movement Clinic

Want to work on breaking into the next grade? The best way to do so is get as much mileage as on as many different kinds of climbing possible. Over the course of this clinic you will be exposed to many different kinds of climbing: face, crack, slab,etc. Climbing routes ( 5.8-5.11 yds )will be set up by local guides. You will be able to work on your skills with coaching from experienced climbers. Must be able to climb at least 5.8

Lead Climbing 101

This two day clinic will expose you to the competencies needed to make sound decisions on the sharp end. A lead progression will start with over view of leading, knot clinics,  gear labs, anchor building, and then lots of practice mock leading.  Need your own rack  for this clinic. Top Rope Setup

 Want to learn how to climb on your own? Learn how to build your own top rope systems with bottom belays. All abilities welcome. You will need to bring your own anchor material for this clinic. 6 locking carabineers, 50-70 ft of static line, 3-4 slings, 2 cordelletes. If you don;'t have this, we would be happy to help you obtain on at our gear store High Peaks Cyclery

Multi Pitch Management

Delve into the world of multi pitch climbing rope handling techniques. Emphasis will be on organization techniques, smooth transitions, anchor building, belaying from above, proper rope handling, and team management in a vertical environment.  Need your own rack  for this clinic. Slide Rules 101

The Adirondacks Mountains are riddled with beautiful rock slides paths with incredible exposureLearn the ins and outs of slide climbing with a local guide. 4th and 5th class terrain.

Adirondack Climbers Coalition Tour de Silver Lake

14 cliffs, all beautiful, most guarded by a 30-60 minute approach. There will be three tours given by locals on Sunday September 24th. 
NOTE: Must be able to competently & safely lead or follow 5.10. This is NOT a guided clinic, you are responsible for bringing your own equipment and rigging your own routes. The locals will show you how to get to the goods and any other beta you want. They are not expected to rig routes for you. 
The Tours will be: 
Left Side Tour - Mud Pond, C Chimney
Center Tour - Center of Progress and Summit
Right Side Tour- Potter

 8 people max per tour 3 tours. 

Suggested Donation - $50.00 before July 31,  after $70.00 - 100% of this money from these tours will goto the Adirondack Climbers Coalition and NYDEC volunteer high angle search and rescue

1. Call High Peaks Cyclery at 518-523-3764, tell whomever your talking with what clinic, tour, speaker(s), or live music you want to participate in and then make payment with a credit card. The shop is open 7 days a week. 9am -6pm. Daily. You will receive an email confirmation within 48 hours of your booking. 

2. You can also email Colinloher@highpeakscyclery.com to secure a spot. In your email please provide what clinic, tour, speaker(s), or live music you want to participate in as well as your phone number. I will call you back within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have and take credit card payment over the phone. You will receive a confirmation within 48 hours of booking. 

3. All clinic and courses will meet  at 8:00 am and launch from High Peaks Mountain Adventures basecamp in downtown Lake Placid 2733 Main Street. Clinics will be finished by 4 pm. 

4. You will be responsible for providing your own food and water. For most clinics, all climbing gear will be provided for. Exceptions to this are: Lead Climbing 101 and Top Rope Rigging. For these two clinics you will need to bring your own gear. If you do not have gear, we can help you at our gear store High Peaks Cyclery.. Yes we also sell climbing gear!!  In fact you will get 10% off any purchase of climbing gear when you book a clinic. ACC members  who sign up for a clinic or tour get 15% off any climbing gear purchases. 

5. We will not be providing transportation to the clinic sites but will encourage car pooling. 

6. Cancellation policy: We realize this a weather dependent event. Cancellations due to weather will be made at the sole discretion of event coordinators. In the event of any cancellation we will be happy to re credit your cc card, give you store credit, or a voucher towards a High Peaks Mountain Guides day.
